Rites of Passage
This is a quick overview of the different Rites of Passage that I offer.
A Handfasting is a ceremony with Celtic origins that can serve as either a symbolic or legal union. It involves lightly tying the couple’s hands together during the ceremony to demonstrate their commitment to one another.
What is a Legal Handfasting Ceremony? This occurs when a qualified officiant formalizes the union and files the marriage license on behalf of the couple.
The Handfasting Cord: The cord, ribbon, or fabric used in the ceremony symbolizes the couple's connection and can be as simple or elaborate as desired; it can also be of the couple's personal creation and design!
These are important milestones that mark significant transitions in an individual's life, acknowledging changes in social status, identity, and spiritual development.
Rites of passage are essential ceremonies that align personal growth with the rhythms of nature. Whether welcoming a newborn, celebrating a young woman’s first menses, or honoring the wisdom of elders, these rituals provide meaning, support, and connection. They reinforce the idea that every stage of life is sacred and deserving of recognition, helping individuals move forward with purpose and belonging.
Scope of Practice Rev Pamela ‘Aurora’ Hunt facilitates rites of passage and sacred ceremony as a legally ordained minister recognized by the State of Maine rooted in earth-honoring spirituality, drawing on a deep commitment to honoring life’s most significant thresholds. This work is ceremonial and ministerial in nature — it is not therapy, legal counsel, or licensed counseling of any kind. Where legal marriage officiation is involved, requirements vary by state and locality; clients are warmly encouraged to independently confirm all applicable legal requirements (marriage license) well in advance of their ceremony. Every ritual and rite is lovingly co-created, honoring the singular vision, values, and sacred story of each person, family, or community who gathers. These offerings are made in a spirit of sacred service — with open hands and a full heart. If you are wondering what might be right for your situation, Aurora warmly invites you to reach out for a gentle conversation. No question is too small, and every inquiry is received with care. A Celebration of Life is a gathering created to honor and remember someone who has passed, with an emphasis on the joy, impact, and individuality they brought to the world. Instead of centering on loss, it highlights their passions, their accomplishments, and the moments that defined them.
These events are typically more relaxed than traditional funerals and often feature personal stories, meaningful music, and the favorite foods that brought them comfort or happiness during their life.
